Devra First is The Boston Globe’s restaurant critic and food writer. She writes features, restaurant reviews, and critical pieces exploring the cultural and societal meaning of food and dining. First has worked at the Globe as a writer and editor since 2000. She was previously the Globe’s food editor. She also served as assistant arts editor in the Globe’s Living/Arts department and staff editor at the Boston Phoenix. She has received awards for criticism from the Society for Features Journalism and the Association of Food Journalists and is a two-time James Beard Award nominee for her columns. She is also the author of a children’s book, "The Adventures of Riley the Museum Dog."
