Jess Bidgood is the senior national political reporter in the Globe's Washington bureau. She chronicles the way politics shape American life and vice versa, with a focus on enterprise stories that illuminate voters' thinking and revealing profiles of important figures in Washington from New England and beyond. She led the Globe's coverage of Senator Elizabeth Warren's presidential campaign in 2020, and has written extensively about the influence of Trumpism and the challenges facing democracy. She won the 2020 Robin Toner Prize for Political Reporting for a bureau-wide effort examining voters in swing states and was a finalist the following year. In 2022, she was named a finalist for the Livingston Award for Young Journalists for her investigation of vehicular rammings at protests. She joined the Globe in 2018 after spending 7 years covering New England and the nation for the New York Times; she began her journalism career in public radio, at WBUR and WGBH. Jess lives in Washington with her fiance and their dog, Rhubarb.
