Milton principal says texts were not of criminal or sexual nature

An investigation revealed that while “communication protocols for coaches were not followed,” text messages sent by a Milton High School girls’ lacrosse coach to players were not criminal or sexual in nature, Milton principal James Jette wrote in a letter to parents and guardians Monday.

Allegations were brought to the administration’s attention June 4, and school officials removed the coach from her duties, according to an earlier letter from Jette.

“The district does not condone communications that could result in our student-athletes feeling uncomfortable,” Jette wrote Monday. “Clearly defined boundaries between our coaching staff and student-athletes are expected and lead to a postive climate and experience.”

In both letters, Jette does not name the coach. Milton varsity girls’ lacrosse coach Katherine Phelan resigned on June 6, citing work travel and graduate school.
